Absence

$1,200.00
sold out

Sarah E. LaBarre

Machine embroidery on canvas

16”x18”

I wish to contest the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience; I am attempting to recreate moments in time with thread and repetitive mark-making. Each stitch serves to mend as I enlist a sense of dream, and of growth. As a result of looking closely upon the natural world around me, I construct microcosms of the mundane and rework moments both real and imagined. There is a particular significance to the smoke-hazed apocalyptic environments that have plagued our country in recent years due to devastating forest fires. These haunting landscapes have left an indelible mark on my consciousness, influencing the themes and atmospheres that emerge in my work. Through my art, I aim to evoke the visceral experience of these moments, conveying their weight and impact on our collective memory.
