Jane Burke
Jane Burke is the Senior Curatorial Assistant for the department of Textile Art and Fashion at the Denver Art Museum (DAM). Since arriving at DAM in 2013, Burke has helped produce exhibitions including: Shock Wave: Japanese Fashion Design 1980s-90s, Drawn to Glamour: Fashion Illustrations by Jim Howard, Dior: From Paris to the World, and Paris to Hollywood: The Fashion and Elegance of Véronique and Gregory Peck.
Burke obtained a BFA in studio art with an emphasis on painting from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She received an interdisciplinary master’s degree in Asian art history and Chinese language from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. From 2006 to 2013, she held curatorial and collections management positions at the Honolulu Museum of Art, The Contemporary Museum, and The East-West Center Gallery, where she assisted on major traveling exhibitions including: The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan, Shu: Reinventing Books in Chinese Contemporary Art, and One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now.

This juried show features fifteen emerging and mid-career Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists, who address identity and sense of place to varying degrees in an array of media.
Physically situating the work of AAPI artists in Loveland is meant to psychologically expand the boundaries of “belonging” within a historically homogenous, agricultural hub in Northern Colorado. The timeliness of this exhibition, concurrent with the national rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, has reinforced its purpose to increase the visibility of AAPI artists and to serve as a form of community building across the Front Range.
