Artworks Loveland is proud to feature The Polychotomy of You, Me, and We paintings by Michael Anthony Simon. The conversation posed by the most recent body of work by Michael Anthony Simon, the exhibition Polychotomy: You, Me, and We questions our understanding of art historical references. Each painting is made up of its own roots, borrowed from the language of painting, but within a new context. As a whole they create an ecosystem made up of each individual experience: the trompe l'oeil of fabric freed from its role of an identifier of a specific object, allowing it to represent anything that should come to mind, the horror film phantoms pushing through a wall in hopes of escape, the polka dotted dress blowing in the wind, the familiar wallpaper of somewhere you can't quite place. All of those moments are there, if you see them. This work wants to be allowed to shift it’s relationship between you and it, and asks you to reevaluate the spaces and points in history you are attached to, and that define you. Michael Anthony Simon is an artist originally from Arizona who has exhibited internationally including South Korea, Hong Kong, and Canada. He graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has participated in two international biennials. He is currently living and working between Denver and South Korea and is currently holding a studio at Artworks, Loveland.
