Rohini Kapil makes abstract compositions using image – space – object. Her work investigates the design process and trajectory of the image across surfaces both physical and digital. She attempts to recapture the image through alternative methods. Recent work explores how the image can redefine its own aesthetic as multiple and minimalist versions of its original self.
Rohini received an M.F.A in photography and media from CalArts in 2011. Currently, she is teaching drawing and painting in an after-school art program for various elementary schools. She has been awarded artist residencies at Tropical Lab, La Salle College of the Arts, Singapore, 2010 and Beta Local, Puerto Rico, 2012. Her photographic images have been published by Leon Works, Kelsey Street Press, Corollary Press, Nightboat Books and Siglio Press. She has exhibited work in Los Angeles, London and Prague.
