Abbie R Powers
Abbie R Powers is an installation, performance and video artist working primarily in silk, the female figure, movement and video projection. Hand-dyed expanses of silk reference the sublimity of the natural world, the intimacy of the figure, and the evanescence of our breath. The figure communicates through modern dance movement while video projection brings to life painted and sculpted works.
Powers is born of the dirt and sky of Nebraska, educated by the restless ocean of Massachusetts and lives and works in Loveland, Colorado.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, MA (2010) and a Bachelor of Science in Studio Arts from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska (2007).
Silk captures, holds and then lets go. Silk shares. Silk references and then melts away. Silk is all things and nothing at the same time. Silk allows me to share rivers and ocean without the use of water. Silk lets us get lost in the clouds while our feet are firmly on the ground.
